The new playground on the Recreation Ground in Whaddon opened on 25 April 2009, and has proved very popular with users. The playground was made possible by the concerted action of a group of villagers, and financially assisted by various local and government grants.

A rota has been set up among villagers to perform checks on the equipment, which has in general been most satisfactory. A few teething troubles were overcome, but ongoing improvements are being made. The balanπce of the Project's finance was handed over to the Parish Council in 2010, and it has been 'ring-fenced' so it can only be used in future for work on the playground.
