In August 2008 Whaddon lost one of its best-known residents, Ted Webb. Ted was born in the house in which he was living at the end of his life, something very rare in this day and age. For the past few years Ted had been an exemplary Chairman of the Parish Council.

Ted's family wished to donate a bench to the village, and it was to be placed next to the new bus shelter. A dedication ceremony, conducted by the Vicar, was scheduled to happen the Saturday morning of Whitsun; most appropriate, since Ted had been a great supporter of the revived Whitsun celebration.
